Bill breakdown
Use our free tip calculator to figure out exactly how much to tip and what everyone owes. Enter your bill amount, pick a tip percentage (10%, 15%, 18%, 20%, or 25%), and set the number of people splitting the check. You instantly see the tip amount, the full total, and each person's share — no mental math, no awkward moments at the table.
In the US, 15–18% is considered standard, while 20% is common for good service. For exceptional service many people tip 22–25%. For buffets or counter service, 10% is typical.
Tip amount = Bill × (Tip % ÷ 100). For example, an $85 bill with an 18% tip gives $85 × 0.18 = $15.30 tip, making the total $100.30.
The calculator divides the full total (bill + tip) equally among the number of people you enter. Each person's share = (Bill + Tip) ÷ Number of people.
Tipping on the pre-tax amount is technically correct and conventional, though some people tip on the post-tax total. This calculator uses the bill amount you enter, so just type in whichever figure you prefer.
